Tips for the New Mom Who is Starting Her Home Gym

If you’re new to the work out from home life, I’m here to help! Not going to lie, working out at home and being surrounded by My Little Pony’s and blocks is the norm for me! I am rarely phased by toys covering my workout mats, but that’s ME. Everyone’s lifestyle and health and fitness journey is different!

If you’re used to working out at a gym, this is probably going to be a big change for you. When creating an environment to workout in, make sure it works for YOU.

Here are a few tips for how to get results, from home:

Equipment. You can get by with a set of light and heavy weights for almost any workout. A set of 5 and 10 pound dumbbells do the trick for me! If you don’t have that, grab something around the house to make due. This can be water bottles, books, soup cans, etc. (Just avoid any fragile items that might break if you dropped them!)

Create a specific space. (PSA: it does NOT have to be glamorous). Mine is a few mats from Costco on one side of our basement. My husband and I have our weight racks, exercise balls, and workout shoes against the wall below our TV. If you don’t have a specific space in your home/garage, just use a yoga mat! It’s easy to clean up afterward.

Take your workout outside if it’s nice! Working out AND getting some Vitamin D and fresh air?! What could be better?

Have plenty of toys for your kids to play with. It’s ok to take necessary breaks during your work out but don’t let them be because of your child’s attention span! 😉This is the only way I get a workout in when my own kids are awake. Or… to avoid this potential disruption just…

Wake up and workout before your kids are up for ultimate “me time!”

Have you been implementing any of this into your daily practice already or are you ready to start off strong? Let me know below!
